Operation Lock-Up - Eight Arrested in Series of Dawn Raids

Eight people were arrested on Thursday, January 28, as part of a high-profile joint-operation between Cheshire Police and Merseyside Police.

Around 200 officers were involved in Operation Lock-Up - a series of dawn raids to target a number of people suspected of being involved in burglary in Warrington and Halton.

Warrants and searches were carried out at a total of 25 properties - 22 of those were in Merseyside and 3 in Widnes.

Cheshire Police response to increased Counter Terrorism Threat Level

Cheshire residents should remain vigilant but not panic after the Counter Terrorism Threat Level was increased from substantial to severe. The decision to raise the threat level reverses the downgrading made in July 2009.

Detective Chief Inspector Martin Cleworth, of the Counter Terrorist Branch, said: "The overall UK terrorism threat level was increased from substantial to severe on Friday. That means the threat level has increased from an attack being a strong possiblity to an attack being highly likely.

"In terms of what this means to Cheshire, we would simply encourage greater vigilance amongst members of the public, just as we will encourage extra vigilance from our staff."

Anyone wishing to report suspicious activity can contact the UK counter terrorism hotline on 0800 789 321 or Cheshire Police on 0845 458 0000.

Let's keep crime down

Remember, most crime is against property, not people. Most crimes are "spur of the moment" where thieves see an open window or valuables on display.

Cheshire Constabulary is supporting a Home Office campaign to prevent burglary, robbery, theft from motor vehicles, and identity fraud. You can find out more information on our Crime Prevention pages or by downloading this Home Office guidance.
