Under the Equality Act 2010, public authorities (including
Cheshire Constabulary) are required to meet the three aims of the
general equality duty, namely to:
- Eliminate discrimination, harassment and victimisation and any
other conduct prohibited by or under the Act.
- Advance equality of opportunity between people who share a
relevant protected characteristic and people who do not share
it.
- Foster good relations between people who share a relevant
protected characteristic and those who do not share it.
As a police force we need to understand the impact of our
policies and practices on people with protected
characteristics.
Collecting and analysing equality information
is an important way of developing our understanding.
We will be using this page to publish equality information that
we have collected. We will update this page every time we have new
or updated information available.
In considering what information we publish we have thought about
what information people might be interested in together with
guidance published by the Government Equalities Office and the
Equality and Human Rights Commission.
We will use this information to set new Equality
Objectives for Cheshire Constabulary which we will publish
by 6 April 2012. We are consulting now and will do so further in
the coming months to ensure we have chosen the correct
objectives.
Police Officers and Staff
The duty to publish equality related information requires public
sector bodies with more than 150 employees to publish information
about their staff. The most recent demographic information
regarding the staff of Cheshire Constabulary is attached below. We
will update this information every time new data is available.

Whilst this page provides information we are publishing for the
first time in this form in response to the new Duty, the rest of
this website contains much more information that demonstrates how
we work to tackle discrimination, advance equality of opportunity
and foster good relations in line with the Public Sector Equality
Duty.
