I am doing some research and wondered if you could help me:
- Is the attending medical person called an FME and what does
this stand for?
- Under what circumstances would an FME be called?
Response
In accordance with section 1(1) (b) of the Act our response is
provided below;
Question 1
FME stands for Forensic Medical Examiner the new name is FP
which stands for Forensic Physician.
Question 2
With our current Medical Contract the FME or FP is used by the
force in some of the following circumstance
- Suspicious Death - required to attend site to examine deceased
following potential suicide/murder.
- Sexual Assaults - Intimate forensic samples from C/V and or
suspects.
- Drink /Drug drive blood samples at custody/hospital.
- General Doctor (Custody) duties when not specifically employed
on forensic related examinations to include initial mental health
assessments, detainee examinations/ prescribing of medication while
in custody, fit to detain reports etc.
