Request

Can you please inform me if uniformed Police Officers up to the rank of Chief Inspector get an allowance or vouchers to clean and maintain their uniform and equipment?

If they do can you please tell me how much the amounts are?

Response

In accordance with section 1(1) (b) of the Act our response is provided below;

The short answer to your question is NO. Officers do not get an allowance or vouchers to maintain uniform etc. All uniform issued today is machine washable. The old style tunic & trousers, (with the silver buttons) is no longer issued, although it is available for short term hire for ceremonies or other official duty events. The actual cost of maintaining those is borne by the Constabulary.

Other general issue items, such as high visibility vests, body armour covers and the like are similarly machine washable.
