Confiscation of Dangerous Dogs

Request

  1. Has Cheshire Police confiscated any animals in relation to the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991, in the Chester and Ellesmere Port area in the last three years?
  2. The four types are the pit bull terrier, Japanese tosa, Dogo Argentino and fila Brasileiro.
  3. If so, how many were confiscated from which areas and what breeds and what happened to them?
  4. What were the consequences for the owners?

Response

In accordance with section 1(1) (b) of the Act our response is provided below;

I have numbered your questions for ease of reference.

Question 1. No. - Confiscation is by order of the Courts and as such the Courts ordered two such dogs to be confiscated.

Question 2. As above. Both Pit Bull terriers, both from Ellesmere Port. Both dogs ordered to be destroyed.

Question 3. (i) Offender found guilty of possessing a Pit Bull. Sentenced to 8 weeks imprisonment.
(ii) Offender found guilty of possession of Pit Bull. Sentenced to 12 month conditional discharge.
