Request

The amount of crimes committed by children in Warrington in 2009.

Can I possibly get a breakdown of how old the child was, their gender, what offence was committed and if possible, what punishment/action was taken.

Can I also get details about crimes committed by people older than 60 in 2009 in Warrington?

Again, can I get the gender of the offender, the offence committed and if possible the punishment/action taken.

Clarification received 01/02/2010

Thanks for your email. Sorry for not specifying clearly, if possible I would like the crimes committed by children between 10 and 17-years-old in Warrington.

Could I also get any crimes recorded for children under 10 in Warrington? Just in case there have been any since the one recorded in 2008 for criminal damage.

Could I also get any crimes recorded for children under 10 in Warrington? Just in case there have been any since the one recorded in 2008 for criminal damage.

We have no additional data for crimes committed by children under 10

With reference to punishment/action. We are unable to list all the outcomes as to do so would entail a manual search of each of the individual records held on the Police National Computer (PNC) as this is the only acceptable source of this type of data. To check the 500 plus records that this request relates to would, it is estimated, exceed the appropriate limit. The appropriate limit is defined in the Data Protection and Freedom of Information (Fees and Appropriate Limit) Regulations 2004, which is covered by statutory Instrument Number 3244 of 2004. Furthermore, Section 12 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 allows a public authority to refuse to respond to a request for information where the cost of compliance would exceed the appropriate limit as defined by the above mentioned regulations.

Please note also the following:

Police forces in the United Kingdom are routinely required to provide crime statistics to government bodies and the recording criteria is set nationally. However, the systems used for recording these figures are not generic, nor are the procedures used locally in capturing the crime data. It should be noted that for these reasons this force's response to your questions should not be used for comparison purposes with any other response you may receive.
