Freedom of Information requests and exemptions

  • Reference Number: 2645
  • Date released: 30 July 2010

Request

  1. The number of requests you have received since the implementation of the Act
  2. How many of these requests you exempted some or all of the information
  3. Which exemptions you used broken down by month and year

Response

From our preliminary assessment, we estimate that compliance with your request would exceed the appropriate costs limit under section 12 of the Freedom of information Act 2000. This is currently £450, to provide a breakdown of exemptions and how many requests were exempt for some or all of the information by month would require a manual examination of all 2,550 requests received from 2005 up to June 2010. It is estimated that this would take approximately 5 minutes per request totalling more than 212 hours.

Some of the information you have requested is already reasonably accessible by other means and is therefore exempt information in accordance with Section 21 of the Act.

Please see the link to our website of use to you, at the bottom of the page shows the number of Freedom of Information Requests per month per year

In order to assist you we may be able to provide the information relating exemptions for the years 2009 and 2010 so far. Please let me know if you would wish us to proceed extracting this data.
