Undetected Murders

  • Reference Number: 2653
  • Date released: 24 August 2010

Request

  1. Since 1.1.60 until 31.12.10 how many murders committed in your force area remain undetected? Please note that I do not require a conviction as evidence of detection just some kind of official recognition by your force that a prime suspect has been established even if he/she was not brought to justice.
  2. Of those undetected murders how many have been linked to other undetected murders.

Note: What I am asking for here is essentially how many of your undetected murders have you linked to each other because of evidence and so believe could have been committed by the same suspect but where the suspect is still unknown. So the answer could be (1) 50 unsolved murders. (2) of which one set of two are linked to each other, another set of two are linked to each other and one set of four and all linked to each other.

Note: If the time period goes back too far for your records I am content for you to shorten the timescale but please make this clear in your reply.
