Request
A national story today is claiming that the amount of people
over 65 commiting crime is rising, it's being called the "grey
crimewave". Although the amount of crime committed by the over 65
age group remains low apparently "new statistics provided by the
police force show rises of between 15 and 25%"
We would like to investigate this locally and would like to know
what the statistics of crime commited by this age group are, and if
this number has risen in local years.
Response
In accordance with section 1 (1) (a) of the Act our response is
provided below;
The only reliable statistics regarding offenders are those that
relate to arrest. We have previously published a response earlier
this years showing arrest for persons over 65 for the past three
financial years together with details of the arrest and where it
took place. This, I believe, will answer your questions.
This information of course is reasonably accessible to you by
other means and is therefore exempt information in accordance with
section 21 of the Act.
