Request
Please can I details of all the police's restorative justice
cases between January 2008 to December 2010.
If possible, can the information include details of the cases
for example 'an 11-year-old was told reimburse neighbour after
stealing money etc'. Or whether a person was made to pledge not to
do something or apologise to the victim
Response
Could I also get a rough date that the solution was made and how
many restorative justice cases have been declined?
I can confirm that we hold the data you are requesting. However
from our preliminary assessment, we estimate that compliance with
your request would exceed the appropriate costs limit under section
12 of the Freedom of information Act 2000. This is currently £450.
The reason for this is if we were to try and detail what the actual
restorative action was in each case we would need to go into each
individual record of each crime manually to establish if for
example a letter of apology had been sent etc. For the time period
there has been 5100 crimes detected by way of RJ, which would take
approximately 255 man hours to achieve a result.
Similarly there is no easy way for us to establish the number of
RJ cases that have been declined as once declined the disposal
would be by some other method, i.e summons, caution or similar.
I have nevertheless provided you with the details of the numbers
and types of crimes that have been dealt with by way of RJ.
