Request

reported stolen in 2009 and 2010.
2. How many mobile phones do you currently have in your property
stores (as a force would be brilliant, I do not need this per
division)?
3. What do you currently do with unclaimed mobile phones? And
how long do you store them for before they are cleansed/ destroyed/
auctioned (or whatever the current process is)?

Q3.
CRIME mobiles are stored for as long as required until after
court case or instructed by Officer in case to dispose. Due to the
information that may be on lost/stolen mobile phones, mobiles are
sent to EForensics in the first instance for data wiping.
EForensics also reuse these in the fight against crime which also
reduces the overall costs to the Force. Once they have exhausted
use they are then processed via a Recycling (Home Office approved
company) to further ensure there is no data available prior to
being reconditioned and re-marketed.
