Response
In accordance with section 1(1) (b) of the Act our response is
provided below;
Please see FOI 2954 Foreign
Nationals
Please note:
A 'foreign national' is considered to be any nominal whose
nationality is not listed as English, Scottish, Welsh, Northern
Irish or British.
A person may feature more than once in any of the counts if they
have been arrested on more than one occasion, as the data relates
to arrests not persons.
Data is only available for the years 2008/2009/2010 as
Nationality was not mandatorily recorded prior to then.
Data relates to a persons nationality as stated at time of
custody record. This does not necessarily relate to a persons place
of birth. It also relies on a person providing the information and
as such there may be some records where offenders nationality is
not recorded.
Data also relates to a persons primary reason for arrest, it
does not relate to any subsequent charges that may have occurred.
i.e. offender arrested for a section 18 assault. Victim
subsequently dies at a later date in hospital, the offender may
then be charged with murder.
Rape data also includes arrests for 'attempted rape', aiding and
abetting rape', conspiring to rape.
No 'Foreign Nationals' have been primarily arrested for
Murder
