Domestic Violence

  • Reference Number: 2995
  • Date released: 18 March 2011

Request

I am undertaking research for a piece of art relating to domestic violence and I need to gather geographical statistics for all reported cases of domestic violence from Jan - Dec in the last complete year of statistics that you have.

I would be very grateful if you could provide me with the figures for each area that your force covers.

In particular I would like the following information:

- Domestic violence homicide figures
- Reported domestic violence figures
- Convicted domestic violence figures

Response

In accordance with section 1(1) (b) of the Act our response is provided below;

From our preliminary assessment, we estimate that compliance with your request would exceed the appropriate costs limit under section 12 of the Freedom of information Act 2000. This is currently £450. The reasons for this are that there were 6319 Domestic Abuse Incidents in Cheshire during 2010, to obtain the conviction data for these incidents would require a manual trawl of each individual incident on our systems, this would take aprroximately 5 minutes per incident. Taking this into consideration it is estimated this would exceed the appropriate limit. The appropriate limit is defined in the Data Protection and Freedom of Information (Fees and Appropriate Limit) Regulations 2004, which is covered by statutory Instrument Number 3244 of 2004. Furthermore, Section 12 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 allows a public authority to refuse to respond to a request for information where the cost of compliance would exceed the appropriate limit as defined by the above mentioned regulations.

However, in order to assist you I am able to provide the following: FOI 2995 Domestic Abuse & Homicides
