Request
Within the Home Office Counting rules there are guidelines on
when a recorded crime can be resolved as a 'no crime'
In the case of rape they are:
1. The crime was committed outside the jurisdiction of the police
force in which it was recorded.
2. Where following the report of an incident which has subsequently
been recorded as a crime, additional verifiable information is
available which determines that no notifiable crime has been
committed.
3. If the crime, as alleged, constitutes part of a crime already
recorded.
4. If the reported incident was recorded as a crime in error.
Under the terms of the Freedom of Information Act please provide me
with the following statistics for your force area for the calendar
year of 2010.
1. How many rapes were recorded.
2. Of that number , how many were 'no crimed'
3. If possible within cost, break the total for question 2 down
into the four categories as outlined above.
Response
In accordance with section 1(1) (b) of the Act our response is
provided below;
There were 212 Rapes reported in 2010, of which 32 were 'no
crimed':
Of those 32 'no crimed':
31 were 'no crimed' due to "where following the report of an
incident which has subsequently been recorded as a crime,
additional verifiable information is available which determines
that no notifiable crime has been committed" (category 2)
1 occurrence was 'no crimed' due to "the crime, as alleged,
constitutes part of a crime already recorded" (category 3)
