Could you please disclose the total number of staff members, if any, who have been treated for addiction to alcohol or drugs at the expense of your organisation in the last five years.

Also disclose the total cost of this provision.

Please also disclose the total number of staff members who have been provided with counselling, relaxation sessions or other similar treatments at the expense of your organisation as a result of stress in the last five years. Please specificy the type of treatment.

Also disclose the total cost of this provision.

Please include the most recent information available, up to the date of my request.

I am not requesting specifics about the role, title or department of any staff members included in the information to avoid any confidentiality or data protection problems.)

Response

In accordance with section 1(1) (b) of the Act our response is provided below;

Please Note: Only the last 12 months information is available and reflect the number of initial referrals. The costs include the initial referral and associated follow-up appointments. Data prior to this is held only in individual medical files and the cost of retrieving it would exceed the FOI cost limits.

1. drug/alcohol addiction: 1 at a cost of £234

2. Counselling: 87 at an approx. cost of £12,636

Please note: We are unable to confirm type of treatment as this level of detail is not recorded centrally. Only counselling is provided in-house and due to the confidential nature of the service no clinical notes are kept and the reason for counselling is not recorded. Other treatments are provided by an outside agency e.g cognitive behaviour therapy and the health care provider does not keep a record of attendance and associated costs.
