Ambulance Service Assistance

As part of the final year of my Paramedic Science Degree at Hertfordshire University I have to complete a research module. As part of this I have to plan and compile a research proposal based on something to do with the ambulance service or paramedic profession.

I am looking at the responses of Ambulance Services and Police Forces, and how they work together currently and also their possible roles in the future. To this note I require statistics on how many calls yourselves as an Police force have attended and as part of the call required ambulance service assistance or intervention. Also the number of calls that you received directly from the ambulance service. If this data is available for the period of a year , most upto date as possible this would be greatly appreciated and would assist with my project. Electronic format data would be most useful if available.

In accordance with section 1(1) (b) of the Act our response is provided below;

With regard to the first part of your question, the number of calls from police to ambulance. We do not collect this data. Because of the direct communications links with other emergency services the fact that we have contacted ambulance and request their attendance at an incident would likely to be recorded in the log on an incident. As an example, there were 314,225 recorded incidents in 2009/2010 and we would have to read through each one to determine if ambulance was required. This would exceed the FOI cost limits of £450 and we are therefore unable to provide this data.

With regard to the second part of your request, the number of calls we have received from ambulance, this is recorded and is detailed below.:
