Request

  1. The number of cases referred to the Forensic Science Service (FSS) for each of the last five years, or for the years for which such information is available.
  2. The number of cases referred to other forensic science companies or providers for each of the last five years, or for the years for which such information is available.
  3. Details of any current or agreed future contracts with forensic service providers including the names of the contractors, length of contract and specific details of the service provided.
  4. Details of any in-house forensic science laboratories including the number of staff, budget and capabilities within forensic science.

Please note: Cheshire Constabulary is part of the west coast regional framework agreement. The available data for questions 1, 2 & 3 has been supplied by the Contracts Management Team base in Avon & Somerset Constabulary.

Question 1 and 2.Please find attached summary case submission totals by supplier and type for Cheshire Constabulary for the available data period held with Contracts Management Team (CMT). Historic data prior to April 2010 is not held. Data from July until present date is not yet available. Please note the data is drawn from supplier records supplied to CMT retrospectively and represents case submission delivered and does not include case submission in progress.

Contracts have been cancelled with Forensic Science Service with effect 3rd October 2011. Contracts with other suppliers remain effective until 31 March 2013.

Question 4.
I would suggest all that we do within Cheshire Constabulary's forensic investigations in areas such as those listed below constitute analysis of some sort. This being the case we have a work force of 89 staff and a budget of £5,465,852.
