Bike Safe
BikeSafe aims to reduce the number of motorcycle casualties. It
is a police-led initiative offered throughout England and Wales to
those who have passed their test.
We want to know why motorcycle crashes happen. And there are
fewer main reasons for crashes than you might imagine. The main
ones are:
- Filtering
- Junctions
- Cornering
- Overtaking
- Group riding
BikeSafe can help people avoid the most common types of crash
scenarios. We watch how you ride, assess you and give you tips to
better your riding skills.
Cheshire is fortunate to host or neighbour some of the very best
motorcycling areas in the country. BikeSafe workshops have been
running in the county for the past 10 years. Motorcyclists are at a
higher risk of accidents than other road users. They make up just 1
per cent of road users but account for 20 per cent of
those killed or seriously injured.
At BikeSafe, we have noticed that motorcyclists who work in the
Emergency Services, who receive a large amount of training, are
less likely to have accidents.
Quite simply, more training equals greater safety. Those
attending the BikeSafe course will not be trained up to police
standards, but they will have a better understanding of the risks
of riding on the roads and how to manage it.
We then recommend you seek out official training programmes to
further improve your riding. Remember, your safety as a
motorcyclist is still always down to you. You have to constantly
assess your abilities, attitude and motivations.
