Information for licensees

Expectations

As an ArcAngel protected premise, you will be expected to adhere to the standards highlighted within the codes of conduct. These guidelines are there for the protection of the community, customers and your staff.

Failure to comply with the standards will result in the premises being refused an award. Once an award has been granted, failure to maintain the standards or breaches of the code of conduct will result in remedial action and possible suspension of the award. Serious and continued breaches of the code of conduct, legislative breaches or criminal behaviour will result in an immediate removal of the award.

Useful Information

Challenge 21 and 25

Challenge 21/25 is a key tool to help prevent the sale of age related products to people under the age of 18 (or younger if appropriate). These products include knives, tobacco and cigarettes, alcohol, fireworks, solvents, butane gas lighter refills and certain DVDs and computer games. It is imperative that it is in operation at all times. Some premises operate Challenge 21 and some operate Challenge 25. You have a responsibility to ensure that you are doing everything that you reasonably can to prevent under age sales taking place.

Failure to adhere to these procedures may result in a fixed penalty notice being issued or possible prosecution in Court.

Controlling noise from licensed premises

Noise from licensed premises, i.e. pubs and clubs is a common cause of complaint to the Local Authority by residents.

The main source of noise associated with licensed premises is from music, although noise can also originate from patrons using smoking areas, beer gardens, children’s play areas and patrons leaving the premises during night time hours.

In some cases, the proximity of neighbours may mean that some premises are not suitable for certain types of entertainment. It is important to ensure that the location and structure of the premises is suitable for the type of entertainment that you intend to provide.

There are some simple steps that can be taken to reduce the impact on the local community, to maintain good public relations with the neighbours and to comply with the Prevention of Public Nuisance licensing objective. Download the Controlling Noise PDF for more advice.
