In order to apply for any role with Cheshire Constabulary you
need to complete the application form as we do not accept CVs as an
alternative. It is key that you complete all areas of the
application form including the Equal Opportunities Monitoring Form
as we provide the information gained to the Home Office to add to
the National Statistics.
The application form is designed to be relatively
straightforward to complete.
How to Complete the Application Form
The application form is designed to be easy to complete to allow
the new line manager to see the skills and competencies that you as
a candidate can offer.
In order to be short-listed and invited to interview candidates
must as a minimum meet the qualifications and experience for the
role. These are detailed on the role profile, below the scope. If
you are unsure if a qualification you hold is relevant to the role
you can check equivalencies on the National Database of Accredited
Qualifications website. If a role profile states the successful
applicant has quite a generic qualification e.g. NVQ level 3 then
the qualification can be in any subject from Accountancy to
Zoology, but if the role profiled asks for a specific level of
qualification e.g. Grade C in English then you must be able to
demonstrate you have that specific grade.
In order to detail your experience on the application form you
should utilise the present and previous employment sections,
completing the brief outline of duties section with your
experience.
It is essential you provide as much information as possible to
demonstrate your skills and experience.
The main part of the application form is the behavioural
competencies section. The way to demonstrate how you meet this
competency is to provide recent examples. All the competencies have
behavioural indicators and are based on the National Competency
Framework.
A good way to fully demonstrate your application of the
competency is to utilise the STAR technique - explaining the
Situation, Task, Actions and Result.
It is imperative that you complete all sections of the personal
details section, as Cheshire Constabulary needs to know where to
send any invite to interview or assessment letters to, and also to
allow various statistics to be recorded for Home Office
purposes.
When the recruitment file is collated and sent to the manager
for short-listing, all personal details are removed from the
applications to ensure an open and fair short-listing process.
