Special Constabulary and have shared their thoughts with us, with
the aim to give you more information about what it's like to
be a Special, and how varied your volunteered hours could be.

My day job is as a divisional manager for an international
lighting company. I was in my mid-forties and what my wife calls a
workaholic. I was looking for something different to broaden my
world; something which presented a challenge. I certainly found

Neighbourhood Policing Unit
The best aspect of being a Special Constable is the wide variety
of tasks the work offers.
In twelve years of working as a volunteer police officer
I have taken part in drugs raids, prevented public order
incidents developing into serious violence, arrested burglars,
searched for missing people and directed traffic at special
events.
