Local priorities

Local priorities

Local priorities set for the period of 1st April 2012 to 30th April 2012

The below priorities were agreed to be current and relevant:

  • Speeding - Speed enforcement and deployment of the 'Smiley Speed Indication Device' speed awareness device across the entire cluster area at all times of day and night.
  • Theft - To target theft of agricultural equipment across the entire cluster area at all times of day and night.
  • Anti-social behaviour - To target anti-social behaviour in rural villages, including Audlem, Bunbury, Willaston, Wybunbury, Wrenbury and the urban area of Stapeley Parish, particularly during weekend evenings and school holidays between the hours of 6pm and 10pm.

How local priorities are agreed in the rural wards of the Nantwich Neighbourhood Policing Team

The Nantwich Policing Unit consists of two Neighbourhood Policing Teams - Rural and Nantwich Town. These are further divided into wards, with beat officers. Your officers will be detailed on the Your Team page.

The Rural team covers a large area comprising of 58 Parishes covered by 32 Parish Councils. In order to having meaningful contact with all of these councils and issues that may be raised to them by the people they serve we operate a series of Cluster meetings with an officer assigned to these cluster of Parishes.

Every three months the beat officer, supported by the Sergeant or Inspector, holds a formal meeting with representatives of these councils in order to agree the local priorities for the coming quarter. In certain circumstances the Councillor may bring a resident with them to the meeting to communicate the issue.

During this meeting the representatives are given feedback on the previous priorities as well as a formal presentation on issues in their area including crime, anti-social behaviour and collisions. In addition the representatives bring forward information that they have received within their communities via Parish Council meetings and knowledge of their areas.

At the end of the meetings, which are chaired by a local councillor, the local priorities for the coming period are agreed. In addition, other issues that can be resolved are taken on board and either dealt with by the local officer or passed onto partner agencies if not a Policing issue; for example, a highways issue that can be passed to Cheshire East Borough Council. These Priorities are reviewed monthly in the period between meetings with the chair of the group and are validated at the crime and disorder sub-group of the Cheshire East Local Area Partnership (LAP) .

The priorities are then listed on the Cheshire Police Website and given to the Parish Clerks of the area in order them to be communicated to other local residents. Work is under way to provide posters to be placed on Parish notice boards in order to communicate this information.

In addition, information received in other formats, such as communication to our Neighbourhood Policing Team email mailbox or at the monthly police surgeries, are taken to these meetings to provide a rounded view. At the moment, the website does not support a map of the areas but the parishes are listed for the relevant clusters and Parish Councils have been provided with this map.
