Local priorities

Local priorities set for the period of 1st May 2012 to 31st May 2012

  • Robberies and burglaries at late night shops - Such locations are being targeted by organised criminal gangs, and this trend is continuing. Our approach is to continue providing crime prevention/target hardening advice. For officers to attend the locations at the key times, ie evenings and at closing times.
  • Anti-social behaviour - To reduce anti-social behaviour in and around the park areas. PCSO's will be patrolling these locations on pedal cycles and officers will be required to default to such areas. In line with this PCSO Davies will be progressing a fund raising project alongside local children in a bid to improve the skate park.

How you can let us know what matters to you

You Said, We Did

  • From 01/04/2012 to 30/04/2012 - Robberies and burglaries

You said: We have seen an increase in robberies and burglaries at late night shops - Such locations are being targeted by organised criminal gangs, and this trend is continuing.

We did: PCSOs and Officers have been attending the local late shops during the key times, primarily the evenings and especially around closing time. The buildings have been regularly checked by those in attendance ensuring that nothing has been tampered with. Officers have been encouraged to spend time with the staff at the stores, and highlight the current trend, and discuss any suspicious behavior observed. During the month of April we have not experienced any robberies or burglaries at such locations.

  • Anti-social behaviour

You said: Residents raised concerns about anti-social behaviour in and around park areas.

We did: Periodically at this time of the year we experience an increase in complaints concerning anti-social behaviour in and around the park areas of Birchwood, especially in Birchwood Forest Park. The behaviour primarily relates to drunken or congregating youngsters causing noise complaints. We have targeted this via our PCSOs who have patrolled the vast park areas on pedal cycles. Their presence often deters people from congregating in such groups and acting in a negative manner. During the month we did not experience any such problems, which may be due to the weather conditions as well as this pro active approach.
