Local priorities

Local priorities

Local priorities set for the period of 1st May 2012 to 31st May 2012

The following priorities have been set by Sergeant Andrew Miller having considered the information held on police systems and the results of various public engagements in the Alderley Edge area. You can influence these priorities by either: attending one of our public meetings; stopping and speaking to officers on patrol; calling us on 0845 458 6374 (Voicemail).

  • Parking problems - There is still and ongoing problem with residents, workers and visitors to Alderley Edge parking in an obstructive manner in certain locations around the village and complaints have been received by the Police. Positive action has been taken where necessary and this will continue until the matter has been resolved. This matter is particularly prevalent around the local schools so we would ask those parents that drop their children off to do so without causing danger to other road users or consider walking their children too and from school if they live nearby.
  • Speeding -  There have been reports from concerned residents regarding motorists speeding along Brook Lane and Hayes Lane in Alderley Edge as well as reports that people are still using mobile phones whilst driving. We have been monitoring the speed of traffic using our new Speed Indication Device ( SID ) and the results are with the Parish Council. We will be placing the SID in other roads around Alderley Edge in a bid to gather information on where to start targeting those speeding with enforcement action.

How you can let us know what matters to you

You Said, We Did

  • From 01/04/2012 to 30/04/2012 - Parking problems

You said: You were concerned about Parents parking inappropriately and sometimes dangerously outside the local schools and motorists speeding generally on the local roads

We did: This is an ongoing issue that will never be solved without those responsible taking some responsibilty for their actions. We have taken enforcement action, tried to educate people by issuing warning notices and worked with the local schools to address the issue by attending meetings, fetes and other events. There has been little success. We would ask local parents to explore alternative means of taking their children to school and walk them whenever possible. This will reduce the issues considerably.

  • Speeding

You said: You were concerned about motorists speeding along Brook Lane and Heyes Lane in Alderley Edge.

We did: We have had the new Speed Indication Device on Brook lane for two weeks which records the speed of every vehicle that goes past. This has shown the average speed to be just under 38 mph overall which is significantly over. Our Traffic Unit have also been out taking enforcement action in this area over the last month so hopefully we will see a reduction in speeding.
