Date of Incident: 24th January 2012
Location of incident: Childer Thornton

Detectives are investigating after a delivery driver was assaulted and robbed of his van near Ellesmere Port yesterday.

At around 11.30am on Tuesday 24th January, a driver for a freight company made a delivery to an address in Woodland View, Childer Thornton.

Whilst he was out of his van, the driver was assaulted by a man who then drove off from the scene in the delivery van, a plain white Mercedes Sprinter type van bearing the registration KN61 ZYT. There were a number of parcels aboard the van bound for addresses in Cheshire and the Wirral.

The victim, who is a 56-year-old man and local to the Chester area, thankfully only sustained minor injuries after his aggressors pushed him to the floor. He did not require hospital treatment.

Police are exploring a number of lines of enquiry including the sighting of a blue Ford Mondeo parked on the A41 at its junction with New Road at the time of the incident. The same car was seen to leave the area at the same time as the stolen van.

The two offenders are described as follows:

Male 1 - (assaulted the victim and stole the van) Asian male, aged between 18-25 years, clean shaven and dressed in a navy blue Adidas sweater and blue jeans.

Male 2 - (seen near to the scene) White male, very heavy build, aged in his early 40′s and unshaven with black/greying hair. He was dressed in a hooded grey and black coat, black ill-fitting tracksuit bottoms, and dirty white trainers. He is described as having a noticeable paunch.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact DC Rob Marshall at Ellesmere Port CID on 101 quoting incident 251 24th January
