Two young men have been jailed for drugs offences.

The pair, who are both from Warrington, were each sentenced to a spell behind bars when they appeared at Warrington Crown Court last week.

Ryan Smith, 24, of Eastford Road, was jailed for a total of two-and-a-half years, and Bradley Nicholls, 20, of Irwell Road, was jailed for a total of two years during the hearing on Friday morning.

They had both pleaded guilty to possession of cocaine with intent to supply at an earlier hearing.

On Friday 30th October 2009 officers from Warrington South Neighbourhood Policing Unit and the Northern Area Dedicated Drugs Unit arrested the two men on Eastford Road, Warrington, as part of an operation targeting cocaine supply in the Warrrington South area.

They were in possession of 40 individual deals of cocaine with a street value of between £1340 and £2160.

It is believed that these drugs were destined to be sold in and around Stockton Heath.

During the operation officers executed numerous warrants, arrested a number of people and seized what is believed to be a large amount of Class A drugs and other items including cash.

A Proceeds of Crime Act hearing was held after the sentencing on Friday.

The court agreed that Nicholls had benefitted from his crime to the sum of £2,095. His available assets were determined at the value of £295. Nicholls was ordered to pay the money back within 28 days or spend a further 1 day in custody.

The court agreed that Smith had benefitted from his crime to the sum of £2,190. His available assets were determined at the value of £390. Smith was ordered to pay back the money within 3 months or serve a further 14 days in custody.

DC Jamie Thompson, from the Northern Area Dedicated Drugs Unit, said: “Police and the courts take the issue of drug related crime extremely seriously and the sentence handed out in this case reflects that view. Two more local young men are now serving prison sentences after getting involved in the supply of cocaine.

“The message is clear - if you involve yourself in the supply of controlled drugs then you run the risk of not only going to prison, but also having to pay back any money that you may have benefited from as a result of your crime.”

He added: “We need the continued support of the public in tackling drug use and supply. We would urge anyone with any information to get in touch. The Northern Area Dedicated Drugs Unit can be contacted directly on 01606 362650 or information can be passed on anonymously, via Crimestoppers, on 0800 555 111.”
