Update on laser pen incident
On the 11th August a laser pen was shone into the cockpit of the
police helicopter as it flew over Winsford town centre, due to the
report of a disturbance. On Thursday, 12th August, a 27-year-old
man was arrested and later charged with recklessly or negligently
acting in a manner likely to endanger an aircraft.
At Vale Royal Magistrates' Court on 2nd September 2010 the
magistrates declined jurisdiction and the matter was adjourned for
committal on 29th October 2010. This shows the seriousness with
which the incident is viewed and the endangerment to people's lives
that was caused as a result of his actions.

The event which will be held on Sunday 19 September from 11am to
4pm and is free on entry. It will feature a whole host of
attractions highlighting the specialist skills needed to work for
the emergency services. Dogs and their handlers will be searching
out drugs and chasing “villains”, armed officers will be capturing
armed robbers trying to escape from the scene of a crime, while
firefighters and roads policing officers deal with a road traffic
accident.
To complement the day a range of children’s rides, face
painters, street dancing and more will be dotted around Cheshire
Police headquarters in Winsford.
Budding detectives will get the chance to solve a crime. While
they investigate a house fire they will meet the people who
contribute to policing Cheshire. They will meet those who answer
emergency calls from the public, the forensic fire investigators
and police forensic investigators as they search for clues. As they
use their wits to find the culprit a whole host of behind the
scenes departments will help the young detective. The correct
answers will go into a prize draw.

service to show what we are doing to make the public of Cheshire
feel safe.
“There is a lot of valuable work going on behind the scenes
which the public don’t normally get to see. This joint event gives
them the chance to find out.”

Wharton Community Action Meeting
The Community Action Meeting for Wharton was held on Saturday
28th August at Wharton Library on Bradbury Road from 9am - 1pm. The
meeting was changed from its usual mid week evening slot in an
attempt to get more local residents to attend and share their views
with the agencies that affect their daily life. Over 40 people from
Wharton and the surrounding area attended. Agencies who were
represented at the event were Weaver Vale Housing Trust, Community
Warden Kim Peachey, Weaver Valley Park Friends Group, Cheshire Fire
Service, Councillors Don Beckett and Brian Clarke. Wharton Library
kindly provided tea and biscuits and the facility itself so that
the public could come along and stay, this created a less formal
surgery style environment.
This relaxed approach to the meeting has received very positive
feedback from residents and the agencies involved. People felt more
at ease being able to talk one to one instead of in an open forum
and we will look to continue with this format in the future.
Regards,
Inspector Dave Snasdell
