Theft from motor vehicles - crime prevention advice

Over the past few weeks we have seen a number of thefts from motor vehicles on the Chester Outer area. Most of these incidents could have easily been avoided if the vehicle owners had taken just basic precautions.

Examples of these are below:

  1. Make sure there are no valuable objects left on view inside your vehicle. Check your vehicle as you leave for handbags, wallets, phones, and sat nav devices left on display. (Also bear in mind items left by family members such as handheld gaming consoles). If left in view, these can be a target for thieves.
  2. Lock your vehicle securely! It is surprising how many of the reported thefts occurred from insecure vehicles. This gives the thief the chance to steal from you with the minimum of effort and noise caused to alert people of their presence.

By following the above precautions you could save yourself from suffering the loss of valuable items as well as the inconvenience that comes with crimes of this type (costs to repair vehicle damage / replacement vehicle costs if repairs required).

It should also be borne in mind that should you need to make an insurance claim, some insurance companies may not payout where you have neglected to secure your vehicle or removed valuables from display.

If you are unsure that you have secured your vehicle or removed items from within – check it! (it only takes a very short time but could save you much more!)
