Most of the newsletters to date have centred around witness
appeals, news of offences that have occurred and crime prevention
advice. This month is centred on good news stories
from the courts and key arrests made by city
officers from the Chester Inner
NPT
.
Chester Inner
NPT
officers regularly put
offenders before the courts but below are some of the key results
the Chester Inner team have achieved over the last few weeks:
- 24-year-old Chester man Mark Pownall
was arrested earlier in the month in relation to
attacking the cash boxes of a pool table at a
Chester City Centre pub. Pownall was arrested the day after the
offence and quickly placed before the courts. He was
sentenced to a period of immediate custody which
was lengthened by a further 10 weeks when Magistrates decided to
invoke a previous suspended sentence.
- Kevin Price, a 33-year-old local man was
investigated by Detectives from the Inner NPT following an
allegation of fraud where it was alleged that he
had taken a cashcard from a vulnerable man and withdrawn nearly
£2000 in cash from his account. Appearing at Chester Crown Court,
Price was sentenced to 8 months imprisonment. In a
happy end to the story – the bank used by the victim also agreed to
reimburse him for the total sum that was stolen.
- Over the last year I have reported on the problem of
pickpockets and so called ‘purse dippers’ within
the city. Earlier in the year, 48-year-old Liverpool man
Paul Lipson was arrested by Inner NPT officers in
a Foregate Store after attempting to steal from the handbag of an
elderly lady. He was also charged with a number of similar
offences. Appearing in court Lipson was a handed a 12 month
prison sentence. ***Remember, you can still get your
jingle bells free from the Town Hall Police Station!!!***
- A complex investigation by Chester Inner
NPT
detectives has seen
another male behind bars. Police executed a drugs
warrant at the home address of 41-year-old Paul
Rowlands from the Newtown area of the city. A
quantity of heroin and cash was found at the
premises. An ongoing and complex investigation ended up with
Rowlands appearing in court where he was sentenced to 5
years for Possession with intent to supply controlled
drugs, 2 years for money laundering offences, and
a further 3 months for possession of drugs.
- Chester Inner officers received information and concerns about
drug dealing in the Saddlery Way area of Chester.
Last week a 19-year-old man, and a
22-year-old woman from this area were
arrested for possession with intent to supply and
possession of an offensive weapon. Unfortunately I am unable to
name them as yet as they remain on Police bail pending forensics
enquiries.
In many of these cases, it would not be possible to achieve
these results without the some witnesses coming forward and passing
information to us, so thank you from all at the Town Hall
Police Station. As ever, information can be passed in
person, on the telephone, on-line, or anonymously if you wish via
Crimestoppers – whichever way you choose, please do contact your
local officer with any concerns and help us to place more criminals
that blight our city behind bars.
Kind Regards,
Sergeant Andy Burrage
