Man charged following fire in Warrington

A man has been arrested and charged following a fire at a block of flats in Warrington.

The 20-year-old, of Lewis Court, Warrington, is facing one charge of arson with intent to endanger life and one charge of section 47 assault.

He was arrested yesterday (Wednesday 1st February) and was subsequently charged with the offences and remanded into custody.

The man appeared before Warrington Magistrates' Court this morning where he was further remanded into custody to reappear before the courts on 27th February.

The charges relate to an alleged incident at Peninsula House in O'Leary Street, Warrington, yesterday morning.

DC Tom Hall, of Warrington CID , said:

We are committed to tackling arson incidents in Warrington. We want to reassure members of the local community that we take any incidents of this nature seriously and will do all we can to trace those responsible and ensure they are brought to justice.

Patrols have been stepped up in the area, officers are speaking to local people and we would urge any residents who have any concerns to contact the local neighbourhood policing team.
