Roads in Fearnhead, Warrington are now re-opening following an
earlier incident.
At 7.12am on Friday 10th
February 2012, police received a report of an
explosion at a house in Cinnamon Lane,
Fearnhead. The house was extensively damaged by the
explosion, and a structural engineer will be making an assessment
around it′s safety later today.
A number of roads were closed to facilitate the work of the
emergency services at the scene - these were Cinnamon Lane at the
junctions with Enfield Park Road and Fearnhead Lane; and Parkfield
Lane at the junction with Bromley Close. These roads will
re-open shortly.
As a precautionary measure, 4 houses adjoining the
affected property were evacuated.
The cause of the explosion is not yet confirmed, however gas
engineers attended the scene following reports of a strong smell of
gas. It is not being treated as suspicious.
The sole occupant of the affected house is a 92-year-old
woman. She was initially treated by ambulance at the
scene, and then conveyed to Warrington General Hospital. She
did not suffer any serious injuries, and is being
treated for a minor injury to one of her hands. Her condition is
described as stable. There were no other casualties.
Police and Fire personnel are now concluding their work at the
scene. Warrington Borough Council will continue to work with a
structural engineer to assess the overall damage to the house.
