Appeal following assault at a park in Crewe Date published: 27th June 2019 3.12pm

Detectives investigating an assault in Crewe are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Shortly after 1.30am on Monday 24 June a 19-year-old man from the town was attacked from behind in Westminster Street Park.

He had walked through the park and was approaching the exit gate to Nelson Street when the incident occurred.

The victim was assaulted by two males and the injuries he sustained during the attack required hospital treatment.

He has since been discharged from hospital.

The offenders ran off in the direction of Ruskin Road after assaulting the victim.

They are both believed to have been wearing all black clothing, including tracksuit bottoms, trainers, gloves and a zipped tracksuit hooded top with the hood up.

One of the offenders had a black baseball cap on.

Enquiries in relation to the incident are ongoing and detectives are urging anyone who was in the area and saw what happened, or anything else that may aid their investigation, to get in touch.

They also want to speak to anyone who believes that they may know who the offenders are or have CCTV or dashcam footage of them.

Detective Constable Ruth Thomas, of Crewe Local Policing Unit (LPU), said: “Thankfully the victim sustained only minor injuries. The consequences of this incident could have been far worse.

“I would like to reassure residents that at this stage of our investigation it is believed to have been an isolated incident.

“I would also like to assure them that we are doing all that we can to try to identify the offenders and make them face the consequences of their actions.

“I urge anyone who thinks that they may have information or footage regarding the incident or the offenders to get in touch with the team here at Crewe Police Station.”

Anyone with information or CCTV footage that may be relevant to the investigation should call Cheshire Constabulary on 101, quoting IML 437540, give the details via https://cheshire.police.uk/contact/general-enquiries or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
