Appeal following assault in Warrington Date published: 10th April 2017 12.58pm

Officers are appealing for information after a man was assaulted outside a Warrington Pub.

At approximately 9pm on Friday 17 March the victim, a 57-year-old local man, was drinking outside the Jolly Tanner Public House, on Statham Avenue, when he was approached from behind by an unknown offender.

The offender struck the victim over the back of the head, causing him to fall to the ground and lose consciousness .

The victim was taken to Walton Hospital where doctors discovered that he had sustained a laceration to the back of the head and a fractured skull. He remained in hospital for several weeks and is currently recovering at home.

Investigating Officer PC Lee Ellis said: “This was an unprovoked assault which caused the victim to sustain serious injuries; thankfully he is now in a stable condition.

"I’m keen to hear from anyone who witnessed this incident, which occurred on St Patricks Day, and I would urge anyone who was at the Jolly Tanner public house or in the area at the time of the incident and has any information that may assist police to contact the team here at Warrington.”
