Appeal following serious assault in Risley Date published: 3rd January 2017 3.44pm

Officers from Warrington CID are appealing for information from the public following after two men were assaulted in the early hours of New Year’s Day.

At approximately 2.30am on Sunday 1 January 2017 the victims, two local men age 29 and 27, were walking home after celebrating New Year at the Turf & Feathers Public House on Glover Road, Risley.

As the pair walked home along the pathway between the pub and Strawberry Close they were approached by a group of between 5 and 6 youths who began to assault them. As a result of the attack one of the victims received serious injuries, including a fractured jaw and cheekbone, whilst the second victim was left with cuts and bruises.

The group of youths, which contained both girls and boys, and are all believed to be local teenagers. One of the youths is describes as a girl, between the age of 14 and 16-years-old with a local accent; at the time of the assault she was wearing a short black skirt. Another youth is describes as a boy, age 14 to 16-years-old, of stocky build and with a local accent.

Investigating Officer Detective Constable Simon Fisher said: “The victims in this case have been left shocked as a result of this unprovoked attack and I am keen to trace the people responsible so that they can be brought to justice.

“We are currently following a number of lines of enquiry and as part of my investigation I am keen to speak to anyone who was in the local area at the time this assault took place.

“As the incident occurred on New Year’s Day, there are likely to have been an increased number of people in the area who could hold vital information and I urge them to contact the team here are Warrington on 101 to help assist our investigation.”
