Appeal for information after man assaulted in Widnes park Date published: 25th April 2017 12.52pm

Officers from Widnes CID are appealing for information after a man was assaulted in Victoria Park, Widnes.

On the evening of Saturday 22 April the victim, a 26-year-old local man, was socialising with friends at the Horse and Jockey pub, Birchfield Road, Widnes when he was involved in a short altercation outside the pub.

Following the altercation the victim left the area at approximately 11.40pm and started to make his way home through Victoria Park with a group of friends.

Whilst walking through the park the victim became separated from his friends and was approached by unknown persons and seriously assaulted.

As a result of the incident the victim suffered serious injuries and was taken to Hospital, where his condition is described as stable.

Investigating Officer Detective Constable Tina Jackson said: “This was a serious incident and we are committed to doing all that we can to trace the person responsible for this attack.

“The victim sustained serious injuries as a result of the incident and has been left extremely shaken.

“Enquiries into the incident are ongoing and as part of the investigation I’m keen to hear from anyone who believes that they have any information in relation to the incident.”
