Distraction burglary in Goostrey Date published: 18th October 2017 8.25am

Police are appealing for information after a distraction burglary at the home of an elderly couple in Goostrey.

Between 11.30am and noon on Friday 13 October a man knocked on the door of a home on Main Road.  The suspect said he was from the water board and entered the property before telling the victims there was a burst pipe nearby and he needed to run a tap in their kitchen.

Whilst the victims were checking the tap the man said he was going to check the radiators in the property but instead stole a large quantity of cash before fleeing the scene.

The suspect is described as white, in his 20s or 30s, 5' 9" tall, of stocky build with dark curly hair. He drove off in a white van in the direction of Chelford or Jodrell Bank.

PC Simon Knowles said: “We are asking for anyone who might have seen anything in the area at this time to come forward so we can catch this despicable thief who stole from a couple in their 80s.

“Please do not let any cold caller into your home and always ask for ID if anyone calls. If anyone has any information about this incident please call Cheshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 152 of the 14/10/17. Alternatively you could call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
