Investigations continue following serious assault in Northwich Date published: 26th July 2017 10am

Investigations into an unprovoked assault in a park in Northwich are currently on-going.

As part of the investigation officers have arrested an 18-year-old man in relation to the incident.

The man, who is from the Winsford area, was arrested on Friday 22 July as part of on-going investigations; he has since been released under investigation pending further enquires.

The assault took place shortly after 9.30pm on Sunday 16 July when the victim, a 17-year-old local male, and his two friends were walking through Greenbank Park.

The victim was approached from behind and punched once in the face, causing him to fall to the ground and lose consciousness. The offender then fled the scene in the direction of Alfred Street.

Investigating Officer Detective Constable Paul Cundy said: “Enquiries in relation to this incident are currently progressing well and we have gathered a significant amount of evidence, including forensics and witness statements.

“While an arrest has now been made, we continue to appeal for information in relation to the case and I urge anyone with any information to contact the team here at Northwich on 101.”
