Sometime between 2pm and 4pm on Sunday 12 March 2017 a man in his 80s was visited by a man claiming to be from the waterboard. The offender entered the address and stole cash and medication before fleeing the scene leaving the tap running in the kitchen.
A white Ford Transit van was seen driving slowly in the area. The driver was described as white, in his 50s and wearing glasses.
PC Nicholas Jackson added: “I cannot stress enough the importance of people not letting anyone into their home who calls unexpectedly and if you have a chain, always use it.
“It’s also vitally important that people are aware that the waterboard does not exist.
“If you do answer the door, make sure you have the door on the chain and ask for identification.
“If they provide it, close the door and check their identity is bona fide by calling the phone number they have provided.
“But most importantly, if you have any doubts about them being genuine, don't let them in and ask them to come back later when you are not alone.”
