Officers investigating an attempted robbery in Warrington are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

At approximately 4.30pm on Tuesday, 27 June, a 46-year-old woman was walking along Manchester Road with her child when a man on a mountain bike approached her and attempted to snatch her handbag.

The man then assaulted the woman, dragging her to the floor before making off empty handed.

The offender is described as being white, of a stocky build, 6ft 1 in height and aged between 28 and 30. He was clean shaven with a fair complexion and sunburnt cheeks as well as having a large pointy nose. He was wearing black tracksuit bottoms and had a black waterproof jacket.

Detective Sergeant Dave Aspinall, of Warrington CID, said: “Although these incidents are very rare, this was a vicious attack on a woman who was with her young child. I would urge anyone who may have seen anyone matching the man’s description or who has any information to contact officers.”
