Man jailed for grooming Widnes teenager Date published: 14th November 2016 11.14am

A 23 year old man has been sentenced to 5 years after being found guilty of grooming a teenager online and meeting up with her.

Joshua Davitt from Castle View in Tintagel in Cornwall was found guilty of grooming and travelling to meet a child in Widnes at Liverpool Crown Court on Friday 14 October following an investigation by Widnes LPU. He was sentenced to 5 years on 11 November 2016 at Warrington Crown Court.

Davitt formed a relationship with the victim on social media and met up with her twice.

DS Marc Roberts said: “This family were alert to this type of behaviour and acted quickly to notify and work with us to prevent it from escalating.

“Thanks to this action and the support they gave her during the trial Davitt was convicted and is now behind bars.

“I would advise all parents to be vigilant on this subject and learn what signs look out for.
