Man jailed for Sandbach sexual assault Date published: 3rd October 2016 3.01pm

A 34-year-old man has today been jailed after pleading guilty to an attempted rape in Sandbach.

Daniel Adam Bates, of London Road, Sandbach, pleaded guilty to the charges of Attempted Rape and Theft when he appeared at Chester Court on 7 September 2016.

The charges related to an incident that occurred at approximately 3.30pm on Sunday 17 July when a local woman was attacked whilst walking along the Salt Line Way in Sandbach.

On Friday 30 September Bates appeared at Chester Crown Court where the judge sentenced him to life in prison, with a minimum of 5 years.

Investigating Officer, Detective Constable Gail Jordon said: “Sexual assault is an horrific offence, which affects victims in the most profound way.

“This incident has had a major impact on the victim, and the courage and resilience she has shown has enabled us to secure this conviction; I hope that she will be able to find some justice in the sentence that has been handed down.

"Cheshire Police is committed to tackling sexual violence and our officers support victims of this type of crime. I hope this sentence - and the bravery shown by the victim - gives others who may have suffered in silence the courage to come forward."
