Officer training ‘role play’ days to come to Winsford Date published: 11th October 2016 10.33am

Cheshire police are inviting members of the public to witness and even help trainee officers learn how to deal with real-life situations they will face once they graduate as full-time officers.

The training day, which puts student officers in full operational equipment and out in the public for the first time, is coming to Winsford this October.

Role plays are designed to put the knowledge student officers gain from classroom based training into practice.

This is done with a series of scenarios based on real life incidents, which the student officers may face once operational. Each scenario will be assessed by specialist trainers who will observe the officers performance. The officers will then receive instant feedback before moving onto the next scenario.

The role plays provide an opportunity for the trainers to observe the students putting their learning into practice, ensuring that they can apply the law in a real life situation.

Conducting the role plays in the local community gives the public a unique opportunity to see firsthand how we train our officers, also allowing them to interact with the police officers of the future.

They will be taking place over eight - ten different locations across Winsford varying from Asda, The Lifestyle Centre and the Old High. Officers moving between scenarios will be on foot, patrolling for the very first time.

Sergeant Dave Levins said: “Role play days give trainee officers the opportunity to see what is like out on patrol in a live environment. They are able to reflect on their performance and see where they can make improvements, before going fully operational.

“I am more than happy for members of the public to come and watch the role plays taking place, and interact with our student officers once they have completed their exercises and had their feedback.”

He added: “We’d also be grateful for the assistance of any local youth or drama groups to act as our role players. If you would like to get involved please contact me via and mark it up for my attention”

The role play days will take place on Wednesday 19, Saturday 22 and Saturday 29 October at various locations arcoss Winsford between 10am – 3pm.
