Officers target drivers who repeatedly mis-use one-way system in Knutsford Date published: 8th June 2017 8.56am

Drivers who repeatedly misused a one-way road in Knutsford have been targeted by officers during a month-long operation.

Concerns were raised to officers by local residents after numerous vehicles were seen driving down Minshull Street and turning right onto King Street.

Officers took action and spent four weeks speaking to drivers about their behaviour while also issuing traffic offence reports.

PCSO Gary Fulton, of Cheshire Constabularies Knutsford Beat Management Team, said: “Motorists may not realise that going against the one-way system is an offence and can result in a fine. I am pleased residents raised their concerns with officers so we can combat the issue.

“It has been a great success, at the beginning of the operation we caught 31 vehicles breaking the system and by the end of the operation only two vehicles were stopped.

“Despite the decrease being significant, this will not stop us continuing to monitor the area to ensure drivers continue to adhere to the road. I hope the past month educating motorists along with reports of near misses involving pedestrians will ensure drivers think in future before going against the one way signage.”

Anyone who notices any drivers breaking the one-way system is asked to contact Cheshire Police on 101.
