Cheshire Constabulary is promoting to the rank of Chief Inspector. The promotion process is now open, and will close at 9am Monday 15th February, and is open for substantive Inspectors from Home Office forces that are looking for promotion to the rank of Chief Inspector. The specific roles will be determined upon appointment.
This is a challenging and rigorous process. To be successful you must prove that you have the ability to make a significant contribution to Cheshire Constabulary as a Chief Inspector. The successful candidates will need to be highly motivated, with a proven ability to develop and lead high performing teams on all aspects of neighbourhood policing including engagement, prevention, response and investigation.
Any Inspector applying from Cheshire Constabulary looking for promotion to the rank of Chief Inspector must be supported by their line manager and Chief Superintendent. Any Inspectors external to Cheshire Constabulary looking for promotion to the rank of Chief Inspector must be supported by their respective ACPO team.
Officers looking to apply for the promotion process will be required to complete an online application form and meet the following eligibility criteria.
- Be a substantive Inspector in a Home Office Force
- Have no outstanding discipline or integrity issues
- Declare any business interests at the time of applying
- Meet Cheshire Constabulary’s attendance standards
Officers are advised to read the Guidance Notes for Completion of the Application Form prior to applying. Officers are also strongly advised to read the Personal Qualities for the role of Chief Inspector referencing experience gained in the last 2 years. Each area of evidence must be verified and dated by your line manager.
Any application forms received that are not endorsed will not be considered, therefore please factor sufficient time into your application process to ensure your form is endorsed. Any application forms received where evidence has not been verified and/ endorsed will not be progressed.

- Competency based application form
- Management Scenarios and Inductive Reasoning aptitude tests
- Stakeholder Panel
- Presentation and Interview

Please note that External officers who are successful through the process will be required to undertake pre-employment checks, these include vetting, drugs screening, medical and referencing.
