Winsford man jailed for sexual offences Date published: 19th May 2016 12.58pm

A Winsford man has today been jailed after he was found guilty of indecent assault and indecency with a child.

Anthony James O’Neill, 69, of Carmarthen Close, Winsford, was found guilty of two counts of indecent assault and one count of indecency with a child on 22 April 2016, following an 5 day trial at Chester Crown Court.

Today, Thursday 19th May, he was sentenced to a total of total of four years in prison at Liverpool Crown Court.

The charges related to historic offences which were committed at English Martyrs, a former High School in Warrington, during the 1980’s.

Investigating Officer Detective Constable Vanessa Byrne said: “I am pleased with the outcome of this case and I hope that the result helps to bring some form of closure to the victim in this case.

“I also hope that this case gives victims of sexual assault the confidence to come forward and report it no matter how long ago it was.

“We treat all allegations seriously and we will ensure that all victims are provided with the help and support they need. I encourage anyone who believes that they have been a victim of sexual assault to contact Cheshire Police on 101.”
