Officers investigating a fatal collision in Widnes are renewing their appeal for information and video footage.

At around 11.52pm on Saturday 18 September police were called to reports of a collision on the A5080 Cronton Lane, near to the junction with College Fields.

Officers attended the scene and found there had been a collision involving a red Vauxhall Corsa, which was travelling towards Widnes, and a pedestrian.

The pedestrian, 23-year-old Liam Walsh, sustained serious injuries and was taken to Whiston Hospital.

Sadly, despite the best efforts of all those involved, Liam passed away a short time later.

The driver of the car was uninjured.

Now, as part of their ongoing investigation officers are renewing their appeal for anyone with any information or video footage to come forward.

They are particularly keen to hear from the occupants of a number vehicles which were captured on CCTV camera in the area around the time of the collision.

The first was a panel van shaped vehicle, possibly a taxi, which drove past the Corsa shortly before the collision occurred.

In addition, officers are also keen to hear from the occupants of a dark coloured saloon car and a London style cab, which were both driving on Cronton Road, travelling towards Widnes, a short time before the collision.

Finally, officers are looking to identify two pedestrians, a man and a woman, who were also seen walking along Cronton Lane in the moments before the collision.

The pair got into a small white car near to the entrance of Cronton College before driving off towards Merseyside.

PC Ellie Wier, of the Serious and Complex Collision Investigation Unit, said: “Liam’s family have been left absolutely devastated as a result of this incident and we are committed to doing all the we can to establish exactly what took place.

“As part of our ongoing enquiries we are keen to hear from the occupants of the vehicles mentioned above as we believe they may hold vital information.

“Even if you didn’t witness the collision, if you believe that you may be the occupants of one of these vehicles please get in touch.”

Anyone with any information is asked to call Cheshire police on 101, or visit www.cheshire.police.uk/tua, quoting IML 1088396.
