Detectives are appealing for information following a serious assault in Widnes.
At around 8pm on Thursday 23 December, a report was received that a 41-year-old local man had sustained a slash wound to his face and stab wound to his hip following a disturbance on St Ambrose Road.
The man was later taken to hospital and has since been discharged.
A 25-year-old man from Kirkby, a 19-year-old man, two 15-year-old boys and a 14-year-old boy, all from Widnes, were arrested on suspicion of section 18 assault.
They have all since been released on conditional bail.
Officers are now appealing to anyone who may have information to come forward.
Detective Constable Laura Sandbach said: "This was a horrific attack which could have resulted in devastating consequences.
"We are doing all we can to find those responsible and bring them to justice.
"Patrols have been stepped up in the area and anyone with concerns should speak to an officer.
"We are following several lines of enquiry and as part of these, we are urging anyone who may have information regarding the attack to come forward.
"The same goes to anyone who perhaps saw something that didn't look quite right, may know who is responsible, or has any CCTV or dashcam footage from the area around the time of the attack.
"Any information, no matter how big or small, could help us with our investigation."
