Detectives investigating a fire at a house in Runcorn are appealing for information from members of the public.
At 3am on Sunday 4 July the property in Kilncroft was deliberately set on fire.
A 50-year-old woman was taken to hospital with serious injuries and she remains in a stable condition. A 33-year-old man also sustained injuries that are believed to be minor.
Police have since launched an investigation and are encouraging anyone with information to get in touch.
Detective Sergeant Helen Newman, from Runcorn Local Policing Unit, said: “This is an appalling incident which could have cost the occupants their life.
“A woman is currently being treated in hospital after she sustained serious injuries to her body as she jumped from a window in an attempt to flee the fire.
“We are determined to find those responsible and have been conducting numerous enquiries in the area including house-to-house. Local officers will also be patrolling the area to provide reassurance to residents.
“We need information from the local community but I know there may be some people who are reticent in coming forward.
