Officers are appealing for information following a serious collision in Widnes.
At 6pm on 31 December, a report was received of a collision on Derby Road, on the bridge as it crosses over the A557 Watkinson Way.
The pedestrian, a 49-year-old local man was in collision with a silver Ford Kuga and sustained serious injuries.
The driver of the car stopped at the scene and is assisting police with enquiries.
Officers are now appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the collision to come forward.
Sergeant Simon Degg, of the Serious and Complex Collision Investigation Unit, said: "The man remains in a critical condition in hospital following the collision and we have been following a number of enquiries.
"Derby Road would have been busy at this time of evening and we are urging anyone who has not yet spoken to us to please do so.
"As part of our investigation, we are specifically looking to speak to any pedestrians who were on the overbridge at the time of the collision and also any vehicles who were in the area."
