Detectives are appealing for information and footage following an assault in Warrington.
At around 12.55am on Sunday 4 December, a 23-year-old man, from Runcorn, had been walking along Moulders Lane when he knocked on the window of a black car believing it to be a taxi.
Three people have then got out the vehicle and began to kick and punch the victim.
The 23-year-old managed to escape and found police officers nearby.
He was taken to hospital with serious facial injuries.
The suspects, all believed to be white and in their 20s, got back into the vehicle and drove away from the area.
Officers are now appealing to anyone who may have information in relation to the assault to get in touch.
Detective Constable Sanjay Bisnauthsing said: “This was a totally unprovoked attack and has left the victim with serious facial injuries which thankfully he is now recovering at home from.
“We have had a number of enquiries ongoing since the incident was reported to us and know that Moulders Lane and the surrounding areas would have been very busy at this time of night.
“As part of our enquiries we would urge anyone who may have seen something that didn’t look quite right or perhaps have dashcam or CCTV footage and have not yet spoken to police to get in touch.
“The same goes to anyone who may have information on who is responsible to contact us.”
Anyone with information no matter how big or small, is urged to contact Cheshire Police via the Cheshire Police website quoting IML 1427632 or call 101.
Information can also be passed on to Crimestoppers anonymously by calling 0800 555 111 or visiting the Crimestoppers website.
